As of 2025, Debian sid really runs just fine on that laptop, which is not surprising considering the hardware is already one year old and we’ve made a long way since 2015 and the X250 (which was already pretty nicely supported).

Like last time, I customized the laptop before buying it and got myself:
Unfortunately having the NFC reader means no smartcard reader and I missed that when configuring and I do use a lot my smartcard running the https://github.com/github-af/SmartPGP applet. I’ve migrated to a Yubikey 5 but that means occupying an USB slot. I might try to check if can still put the internal smartcard reader in its slot later.
Since few generations, the X13 has a notch on the screen, hosting the camera. I think it’s a bit ugly to not have a straight top, even if it means a bit larger, but all the ThinkPad seem to have it anyway.

The trackpoint is still present and working as intended, buttons included. I didn’t yet disable the touchpad, I’ll see if I do that at some point. No issue with the hardware support.
The keyboard is still mostly the same. The shortcuts in the functions keys have evolded a bit. Now there are keys with phone (like old phones) for picking up and hanging. I don’t think it makes much sense but I guess I just won’t use them for anything.
One thing I noticed from the Arch
wiki (always a good resource) is that there are shortcuts to switch
the power management profile (as indicated in
/sys/firmware/acpi/platform_profile

Also the caps lock led is back.
Everything works just fine. I still use Xorg because I use Xfce, so no idea about Wayland.
The screen is back to 16:10 so the resolution is 1920×1200 (not 1080). At home I’m mostly plugged into a 4k UDH screen so I need some adjustements for the DPI settings.
For now in Xfce I’m using a scaling factor of 2 and font size of 7.
Then in the display preferences I set the scale to 0.67 for the embedded
panel and 1 for the 4K display. I had to adjust Firefox
ui.textScaleFactor
to 0.75 as well.
